The tawny owl is one of the first birds to start breeding. As the first signs of spring begin to appear, there is a chance that tawny owls—normally still easy to find at their roosting spots—suddenly become much harder to see. It is mid-January, so I should just be in time to catch a glimpse of the owls whose locations I know. With my fingers crossed, I set off, hoping to find them in the beautiful winter sunlight.
