Earlier in the week, we had already heard the young long-eared owls calling from further down the street. Each night, they crept a little closer, until they were perched in the tree right in front of our house, calling out to their parents. The sound is a bit like a dog chewing on a squeaky toy \u2014 and it goes on all night long. Two of them, side by side in the tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since they were already able to fly, chances were they\u2019d pick another tree later that night. But when I was having my morning coffee and heard a faint squeak again, I looked outside and saw them still there \u2014 both of them, in the same tree right in front of the house. Beautiful light, charming little creatures \u2014 the perfect recipe for some nice photos. We didn\u2019t see the adult owls, but they were surely not far away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
