The first black-tailed godwits have arrived, and the lambs are already out in the meadows! It seems the first summer guests have checked in, and the fields are alive with lambs once again. In short, spring has officially sprung, but I hadn’t yet found a moment to head out into the wetlands. Until today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had a wonderful encounter with my first godwit of the year, and the lambs grazing on the embankment didn’t seem to mind my presence at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While scanning the Eemmeer lake with my binoculars, hoping for something rare, I suddenly saw movement in the short reeds. Almost instantly, I spotted the black tip of a tail: a stoat! It was heading toward the path, so I managed to get into a good position, hoping for a clear view. And it didn’t disappoint! I followed it for a while\u2014mostly by sound, as the reeds were quite high\u2014catching only the occasional glimpse of it darting through the vegetation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A truly beautiful sighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
