I believe this is one of the most well-known tawny owls in the Netherlands. It has been reported many times on observation platforms and usually shows itself quite well.
During the Christmas holidays, we decided to visit the Hoge Veluwe as a family — a nice little outing to get some fresh air. When we arrived, we first decided to check whether the owl was around, but at that moment, it wasn’t visible.
From a higher vantage point, I could see that it was indeed “home,” but it had tucked itself deep into the tree.
A bit later, when I decided to give it one more try to get a photo, it had crawled out of its hiding spot and was showing beautifully.
