Sometimes life suddenly sharpens everything into focus. In a harsh way, you are confronted with what truly matters, when reality unexpectedly comes sailing around the corner. These are moments that force you to pause and make you realize that perhaps you don’t enjoy enough the things that actually give you the most pleasure and energy.
For me, that realization became increasingly clear through my photography. Being out in nature, searching for special species and capturing them on camera gives me peace and fulfillment. Yet I noticed frustration starting to take over. The slow autofocus of my previous lens and the frequent lack of sharpness in the photos it produced meant that I went out less and less. And that, while this is exactly what gives me energy.
After a long period of waiting and extensive research, I therefore decided to take the step and purchase the Canon 200–800mm lens. Not simply as a new piece of equipment, but as a conscious choice to once again enjoy the things that make me happy. An investment in time outdoors, in moments of wonder, and in capturing the beauty that nature has to offer.
