After more than a week in Germany, we drove on to Piedmont in Italy, where we stayed at our friends’ house together with them and their kids. From a mountain we had a view over a beautiful valley and, once again, stunning nature. The combination of magnificent scenery, rich biodiversity, wonderful friends, and great weather made it a holiday to never forget.

One target species for me has been the European bee-eater for years, but while it is much rarer in Portugal, this year it simply had to work out. As soon as we arrived and were sitting down with our first cup of tea after the journey, I immediately heard its distinctive call echoing deep in the valley. After that, I actively went out to see them properly and photograph them. Absolutely stunning!
