Now that Christmas Day has passed, the weather is pleasant, and we are only expecting visitors later today, I still have just enough time for a short birding outing. With the sun already beginning to sink, the light is beautiful. In a field with sheep, great egrets, grey herons, and cattle egrets are foraging across the pasture. Their plumage is already starting to show lovely colours, with subtle yellow tones appearing.

From the car, I was able to closely follow a hunting cattle egret, and right in front of me it snatched a field mouse from the grass! It swallowed its catch just in time before a great egret tried to steal it.
