After months of absence, I noticed on waarneming.nl that the bluethroat had been reported again. Not everywhere yet, but its return was certain. When the weather finally allowed it, I decided to visit a familiar area where I had seen this beautiful bird years ago. Revisiting known spots often pays off with birds, as long as the habitat hasn’t changed drastically.

Upon arrival, it was still quite windy. I mainly heard reed warblers and reed buntings, but there was no sign of the bluethroat. At the end of the walk, there’s a bird hide, and as I started walking back towards the starting point, the wind gradually began to settle. From that moment on, the bluethroat revealed itself beautifully—both in song and in view. Good to see you back!
